Driving a Car vs. Walking, Biking & Public Transport
Wednesday, 10 November 2010 06:43
Next time you have to go somewhere, choose the best transportation method. Here are the pros and the cons:
Walking, Biking & Public Transport Driving a car
+ less [or no] pollution (nature thanks you)
+ walking and biking are the most energy efficient forms of transportation
- more pollution (water, noise, air, forest-biofuel, concrete, greenhouse gas)
+ low risk of accident (hurting you and others) - high risk of accident (hurting you and others)
- will take you approximately 30% more time to get from point A to point B in an urban area
+ in some cases, biking can be faster than driving
+ will take you less time to get from point A to point B
+ punctuality (you can calculate precisely the time of arrival)
+ if more and more people use the public transport and bikes, traffic jams will be avoided and public transport will intensify and be more punctual.
- punctuality (traffic jams)
- you have to wait 5-10 minutes for public transportation or taxi + you can get in your car and start moving right away (this is if you parked close)
+ you can pause and interact with the environment while you're on your way (pee, eat a muffin, meet acquaintances, do people-watching, meet new people, fall in love (even several times per day), go through parks, smell the flowers, hug the trees, pet the cats etc.) + will take you from point A to B without interacting with the environment or other people (most of the times you are alone in your car)
+ you can play with the animals you meet - you will kill some road animals
+ costs little or no money (ticket fee or bike maintenance) - costs you at least 300$ per month (purchase price or leasing, gas, insurances, parking fees, traffic fines, oil, technical inspection, cleaning, etc.)
+ you drink and smoke anything you want*
*please drink alcohol in moderation
+ you can drink little or no alcohol
+ when you arrive, you can immediately start doing what wanted to do there - when you arrive, you have to find a parking spot. good luck!
- you can't smoke in public transportation + you can smoke in your car
+ you can keep fit and energetic while on the go - in time, you will become dull and less energetic. and, by the way, you WILL get fat
+ you can save money and time by not going to the gym - you spend money and waste time DRIVING to the gym
+ you are more healthy and save time & money by not going to the doctor and not taking drugs (reduced risk of heart disease, several types of cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis and stroke) - you will be more sensitive to external factors (temperature change, dust) and you'll get ill often and spend time and money on doctors and drugs
+ you can focus on your thoughts - you have to focus on the driving
+ you can show everyone how pretty you are
+ bikers often feel higher self-esteem because they power their own commute
+ you can show everyone what pretty car you have
+ it's easy to walk or ride a bike - driving will get you physically tired
+ lower stress - higher stress (I know, he almost hit you and he's an IDIOT. you should definitely sue him)
+ [public transport] you have your own personal driver + most of your day, you are just a driver. your dream-job, maybe?
- your feet will hurt+ your feet won't hurt
- if it's cold outside, you will freeze to death + if it's cold outside, you can start the heating
- if it's hot outside, you will sweat
+ bicycling gives you more fresh air than a sauna and you can still sweat and clean your pores
+ if it's hot outside, you can start the air conditioning
+ heating/air conditioning are already running when you get on a bus, so you feel comfortable right away - heating/air conditioning take a few minutes to be operational in your car
- you will get dirty & wet from the dust & rain-water on the streets
- people usually stink in public transportation
+ you will be clean and shiny
+ you can walk in the rain + if it rains, you don't get wet
+ if public transport is not working, you can walk + if your car stops working, you can still walk, but you'll have to come back and repair the car
- you can transport only yourself and little luggage + you can transport your family, friends and other stuff
- you won't get too far by walking or biking
+ by walking or cycling you can explore areas that are not accessible by car
+ you can go long distances faster
+ you can tan yourself + you won't get any sunburn because of the UV protection in the windscreen
+ riding a bus and walking gives you more freedom in urban areas; you can switch transportation method on the way - no matter what, you can't abandon your car
+ it is recommended that you live close to the city centre + you can live outside the city
+ you can have fun while biking + you can have fun while driving
+ reduce traffic congestion - see The Muenster Poster - increase traffic congestion; emergency services can't get on time
+ route optimisation - very few routes to choose from
+ biking helps you attain a natural state of "high" - you will still be asleep and grumpy when you arrive at your destination (coffee required)
+ you don't need to be 18 to ride a bike - you have to be 18 to drive
- you can get mugged + you are safer from robbers

Chapter 2: A happy life
Sunday, 20 September 2009 15:35

Just sit down, relax and enjoy the show (Mihai Rusoaie)

Life's about sharing. Photos. Ideas. Dreams. Experiences. If you don't share, no one will know how you feel. Share your happiness. You will achieve the ultimate state of happiness only through the people around you.

People tend to build something in this life that will be left for their children: a company, a house, a hobby, etc. This is why only children can give continuity and common sense to your life. If you can leave something much greater, something from which will benefit a lot of people, you are even better!

Life's a... Bus
Tuesday, 04 August 2009 16:33

You can choose when you want to have a break wherever you want. Just get out, sit on a bench, have some air, and when you are ready, step right back in.

You can observe all the people that are close to you and some of them which are just passing by.

You have the power to attract the ones you like and love them.

It can be day or night, sunny or rainy,  cold or hot... no matter what, all those people you see are there for you.

It might be shocking for you, but you will be crossing the same places and living the same emotions over and over again.

From time to time, it pauses for a second, allowing some people to leave, and some new people to arrive.

You will know from the first minute who can and wants to like you and who doesn't.

Parallel Universes?!... How About Dreams?
Tuesday, 10 March 2009 17:22

Dreaming is present in our every night sleep. Although this happens to us very often, we usually ignore it. All living creatures on Earth dream. Scientists say that this is just a projection of our thoughts. But those of you who frequently have lucid dreaming know that dreaming is much more.

You simply can feel more alive when dreaming than you feel alive in everyday life.

Let us know below any resemblance that you had between your real life and your dreams, maybe we can figure out together a connection between them.

If you want to have frequent lucid dreaming, it helps to relax - for example sex would get you very relaxed.

Multiple personalities: why need them?
Thursday, 19 February 2009 08:12

... because there is an actor in each and every one of us. And you need a different approach for everyone in your daily life. That's why most of us prefer just very few close friends, or just one gang that keeps us happy. Interacting with more and various people involves us to premeditate our behavior to each and everyone of them in particular.

I love those people living in their bubble. It doesn't matter what your obsession is, it is still an obsession: weed, alcohol, TV, music&dancing, blogging & social networks, MMORPG computer games, sex, violence, sports, drugs. They just focus on their thing and talk only with people that are just like them!

The only way to have a free mind is to expand your boundaries. Try a little bit from everything and everyone. Expand your view. You'll be much more happier with your life!

To find out your social defects, analyze the nicknames your friends gave you through the years...
